5 FACTS of the Essential Oil Market

First of all, Happy TWO Year Oil-Anniversary to ME! I'm so excited you guys! I can't believe I started on this journey two whoooole years ago! It's crazy!!

Now, what I'm even more excited about is the giveaway that I'm doing to celebrate!! Check out my Instagram (@meghanganong) for all the details on that! Just a little note: it involves super cute diffuser bracelets, made by my good friend, Amber of Essential Hello (https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/EssentialHello)!

Now let's jump right in! The question I'm going to answer today is, WHY Young Living. There are seriously soo many essential oil brands out there, so what makes Young Living so special? What separates them and makes them stand out?

When I was introduced to essential oils two years ago, Young Living was a no-brainer for me, but some people like more explanation, which is AWESOME! And that's what I'm here to do in this post. To offer a little more insight on what the essential oil market looks like today.

I'm going to touch on 5 main points and here we go!

#1 No Standard

There is absolutely no standard or regulation out there on what you are allowed to put in an essential oil before you label it 100% pure. That, my friends, is the scary truth!

An essential oil is legally only required to contain 5% plant material in order to label it 100% pure. And that 5% can be something like floral water for example, which smells amazing and is great for your skin, but doesn't have any therapeutic benefit because it's been watered down.

Then there's another 95% that is made up of what? We don't know!!

There isn't enough plant material in the world to support all the companies that label their oils 100% pure. We can't forget we're talking about nature here. There's a lot that goes into the entire process.

#2 Background Matters

Young Living was officially established in 1994, although anyone who has read Gary Young's book knows how much he researched and worked for YEARS prior to that. Gary Young is the man who brought essential oils to North America.

Young Living was established long before essential oils became the new ''thing''. These oils are not a fad, they are pure powerful plant extracts with INCREDIBLE therapeutic benefits! This company was/is built on years and years of research done by an amazing man.

#3 Harvest + Distillation is KEY

Young Living is the only company that owns their farms and distilleries. The distilleries are actually on the same land as the farms, so the plants (after harvest) don't have to be taken to a different location.

Their Seed to Seal guarantee isn't simply a motto, but a high standard they uphold with ALL of their product. And having the farms and distilleries located on the same land allows for this to happen! The plants can be distilled right after they are harvested without the need for transportation.

There are farms in every continent of the world except Antarctica. No synthetic chemicals or fertilizers are used on any of the plants. The crops are hand weeded and cared for in the BEST way possible!

If the plants aren't harvested or distilled correctly you will lose all therapeutic benefits; therefore, rendering the oil useless. Harvesting and distillation are KEY components in creating 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils!

#4 Visitation Rights

Young Living is very open, honest, and transparent about everything. That also includes their farms. You can go and visit and actually participate in the process of making an essential oil! How cool is that?! It's one of my goals to go within the next couple of years and experience it for myself! Who's coming with me?!?

Another thing is, you don't have to be a member of Young Living to visit their farms, ANYONE can go. They want to show others how much work and time goes into making these beautiful oils. That brings me to my next point!

#5 Price Reflects Quality

Now, this is true for literally everything, so why wouldn't it be true for essential oils? After just talking about the farms and realizing how much goes into making a small bottle of essential oil, it makes sense that it needs to be priced accordingly.

When you are moving away from toxic chemicals and using natural alternatives like essential oils, it's important to realize the quality of the oil you are using!

Like I mentioned earlier, there is no standard or regulation around what's in your bottle. There could be additives like fragrance, for example, to make your oil have a more ''pleasing'' aroma. The thing with that is you could still be using CHEMICALS!

So keep in mind, you get what you pay for! Factors like plant material, distillation, harvest, etc. are all reflected in the price of the product!

So, there you have it! Those are my top 5 reasons as to why I choose Young Living!
